Double Bill – Women After War | Rolana Saadi | Rada Sésíc

Rolana Saadi groeide op in Israel als de dochter van een Syrische moeder en een Palestijnse vader. In deze voorstelling combineert ze theater, dans en zang en geeft daarmee een doorkijkje in haar gecompliceerde levensverhaal dat haar van een door oorlog verscheurd land naar Nederland heeft gevoerd. Ze laat zich daarbij inspireren door Arabische en Hebreeuwse liederen, verhalen van vrouwen in opvanghuizen in Nazareth die ze optekende en haar eigen ervaringen. Hoe is het om een transculturele vrouw in oorlogstijd te zijn? De drang naar onafhankelijkheid, de wens om je talent te ontplooien en het geluk te vinden, verbinden iedereen, ongeacht religie, nationaliteit of geslacht. Deze voorstelling is geprogrammeerd in de categorie “Jonge Helden”, waarmee LiteSide Festival jong talent een podium aanbiedt.

Rolana Saadi grew up in Israel as a child of a Syrian mother and Palestinian father. In this performance Rolana Saadi uses theatre, dancing and singing to give a glimpse into her complex story which has brought her from her war torn land to the Netherlands. Inspired by the Arabic and Hebrew songs of her youth, her investigations into women’s shelters in Nazareth and her own experiences within, Rolana has created a performance about the state of being a trans-cultural woman in times of war. The urge to find independence and a desire to develop talent and be happy are the connections between all individuals regardless of religion, sex or nationality. This performance is part of “Jonge Helden” (Young Hero’s), a LiteSide Festival program that offers young talent the possibility to present themselves to the public.

Room Without a View

Room without a View is het autobiografische verhaal van filmmaker en journalist Rada Sésíc die in 1993 uit Sarajevo vluchtte. De film laat zien hoe het is om naar een vreemd land te verhuizen en de brokstukken van je leven weer op te pakken. Sésíc vraagt zich af of oorlogsvluchtelingen wel echt gelukkig kunnen zijn, ongeacht hoe hard ze proberen zich aan te passen aan hun nieuwe leven.

Room Without a View is the autobiographical journey of film-maker and journalist Rada Sésíc, who fled from Sarajevo in 1993. The film ponders on Sésíc wonderings and questions, on whether those who fled the war are really happy, in their new adapt life.
